I’ve always had a love affair with boats and water and I rather fancy the working boat rather than a fancy yacht. Thinking Grandfather is to blame for that, as he bought me my fist ‘Timmy the Tug Boat’ book. It is for these reasons that when I moved to Vancouver, I found myself a home near Steveston, a lovely, historic fishing village in Richmond.

I love my fishing village and feel like showing it off in it’s summer splendor, so I’ve decided that its time for a Steveston Tweetup:
- to show off this marvelous village
- to make the rest of you a bit more cultured in BC history
- because we all spend too much time at the same drinking holes in Gastown
- so I can meet some of my local neighborhood tweeters
- but most of all because I think its everyone else’s turn to drive across the bridges
Here are the details:
Date: Saturday July 18th
The Plan:
Now the beauty of this plan is that you can come and go whenever you please. I’ll have my iphone on me & will post where we are at & reply to messages of any lost souls. My twitter handle is @EricaHargreave & the hash tag is #StevestonTU.
And if you want to come out to Steveston earlier in the day theres lots to do, including:
- great shopping with many local artists featured
- a farmer’s market
- bartering with the fishermen on the dock
- Britannia Heritage Shipyard
- the Gulf of Georgia Cannery
- London Farm
- kayak rentals
- bike rentals
- whale watching
For those of you needing transport, Steveston does have it’s own bus exchange or might I suggest carpooling. If you have a car and room for passengers, please comment below (preferably with your twitter handle). Similarly if your looking for a ride, please drop a note below.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Erica

I will come, I just need to find the bus or the transportation from DT (I’ll be arriving back from Salt Spring Island)

I said that I would be there but unfortunately it’s my first night back at work.
Sounds like a great evening Erica. I hope lots of peopleake the trip!
Next time….
Thx for the invite! I have to send my regrets. My son has a track meet in Coquitlam. Thx for organizing this also. I will be sure to keep an eye out for the next one.
Erin
Next time for me too!
Hey, count me in, I’ll be there!
Cheers
Erich
I hope you have a great time at the tweetup on Saturday. I’m busy that day, but I’m going to Steveston the following Wednesday for a meeting. Do you have any time to meet up for a coffee in the early afternoon on Wednesday July 22? It would be great to meet with a fellow storyteller!
I’ll suggest this to my good lady wife. She may be working at Boundary Bay at the demonstration garden during the day, so this may be the perfect completion to her schedule: work hard, change, eat yummy cheeses! WIN!
I’ll let you know.
Hey Erica,
It seems I have a free Saturday and would love to attend. I’m trying to get directions on Translink to the Steveston dock you’ve described in your post (I have no car). But, no luck. Is there an address you can provide? I’ve never been out that way before.
Cheers!
This is shaping up quite nicely. Looking forward to seeing you kids tomorrow!
Rob - I think the Steveston Bus Depot is on Chatham St.
Summer hugs,
Erica
Ooooh, I already have plans! Boo! This sounds so amazing, I’d love the chance to check out Gudrun.
Next time I’m in for sure!
Dang! She’s busy from 5:00pm on with a work-related event, and she’s not working in Boundary Bay. Poop!
We will be heading out to Boundary Bay on an errand *during* the day, however. Anyone?
Well, I’ll be there. Dunno what bus goes to Steveston, but I am going to assume Steveston isn’t that big and once there I’ll be able to find my way around.
Argh - a Tweetup in my backyard and I can’t go! I’d like to and as much as skipping out of packing for my move next weekend sounds like such a great idea…
Rod, Erin, Joanne, Ian, Jules and Susan you’ll be missed. Next time.
Chris - if you need a break, you know where will be and you can always tweet me for the specific location.
I was going to come but I just made it to The Network Hub and I am 100% beat. I’ll see you during the week. Much love!
